Analytical

Alfred H Knight has established a reputation for its advanced analytical capability. The combination of instrumental techniques with the more traditional methods of analysis has enabled Alfred H Knight to provide its clients with accurate results and a more rapid efficient service, essential in view of the high intrinsic value of most of the commodities being traded.

Due to the international reputation of our UKAS accredited laboratory we are one of the most highly regarded arbitration laboratories in the world. Our analytical facility in the UK is staffed by some seventy qualified chemists and technicians with many years experience in the analysis of metallurgical commodities.

The wet chemical laboratories are engaged chiefly in the analysis of base metal concentrates. Classical gravimetric and volumetric methods are utilised for the major constituents with minor and trace elements determined generally by Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. In certain instances other instrumental methods, incorporating Ion Selective Electrode Measurement and Spectrophotometry, are used.
