BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Twikatane Ndola Vocational Training Centre was set up by an Italian Voluntary Organisation known as Central Votontari Marchigiani (CVM) in conjunction with the Franciscan Province in Zambia.  It started operating in July 1987. It was handed over to the Franciscan Province in Zambia in 1992.  Since then Twikatane has been run by Franciscan Province with the help of local staff.
Twikatane was started specifically to cater for the disadvantaged youth groups who because of poverty or not meeting the grade were unable to go further in their education.  At the moment we also cater for other groups through part-time and short courses.  We are a Trade Test Examination Centre.



ACTIVITIES

1. We offer training in:
    Carpentry/joinery -2 Years
    Cutting/Tailoring- 2 Years
    Carpentry/Joinery- 1 Year
    Cutting/Tailoring- 6 Months
    Cutting/Tailoring- 2 Years (evening)
    Entrepreneurship has been infused in all the courses.
    Enrolment for the above courses is in August and September of every
    year.

2. We conduct short courses in:
    Carpentry/Joinery
    Cutting/ Tailoring
    Entrepreneurship

3. We make Carpentry products: e.g. doors, chairs, tables, desks, church
    benches, altars, wardrobes, cabinets etc. We also undertake repair work.

4. We make Tailored items- e.g. dresses, trousers, suits, shorts, boys and
    girls school
    uniform, etc. We sew garments for customers with their own materials.

5. We plane, cut, groove, shape and turn wood according to customer's
    specifications

"Twikatane will always be a Centre for qualify Technical, vocationtial Skills and Entrepreneurship Training for disadvantaged youths, widows,, orphans and informal sector operators to uplift their Having standard and enshrine self-reliance in their lives."
                                   		In order to equip our clients. with life long Technical and Entrepreneurial skills Twikatane Intends :
o To impart knowledge and practical skills in Carpentry and Tailoring.

To assist graduates become self-reliant by equipping them with entrepreneurial skills
o To equip graduates of regular courses with basic tools and equipment to enable them start working on their own upon completion of their training.
o To assist trainees grow physically morally and spiritually through sports, gardening and daily morning prayer sessions
