Hazmat Courses

Hazmat Awareness Challenge

Intended for employees who are on a fire team  

Course Content:

  • Theoretical evaluation as per NFPA 472
    - First aid level 3 or basic ambulance course
    - Fire fighter one

Duration: 4 Hours

    
Hazmat Operational Challenge 

Intended for all employees who are on a fire team

Course Content:

  • Theoretical evaluation as per NFPA 472
    - First aid level 3 or basic ambulance course
    - Fire fighter one
    - Hazmat Awareness

Duration: 8 Hours

   
Dangerous Goods Driver

Intended for all vehicle drivers transporting dangerous goods

Course Content:

  • Classification of chemicals
  • Dangerous goods placard
  • Hazard symbol
  • Tremcards
  • loading / off - loading
  • Emergency procedure
  • Basic fire fighting
  • Standard operating procedure

Duration: 8 Hours

     

Hazmat First Responder - Awareness level NFPA 472 Standard

Intended for all employees who are on a fire team or who could be faced with handling hazardous material incidents

Course Content:

  • Relevant SA legislations
  • NFPA 471, 472 and 473
  • Introduction to hazardous materials
  • Properties of hazardous materials 
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Command, safety and scene control 
  • Hazardous materials: Containers and packaging

Duration: 5 days

Hazmat First Responder - Operational Level NFPA 472 Standard

Intended for all employees who are on a fire team or who could be faced with handling hazardous material incidents

  • Introduction to hazardous materials

  • Recognize and identify hazardous materials
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Command, safety and scene control 
  • Hazard and risk assessment
  • Tactical priorities and defensive control strategies
  • Incident control, strategies and tactics
  • Decontamination tactics
  • Practical exercise
