The
Department of Foreign Affairs is a department of the Office of the
President charged with the responsibility for the development,
formulation, management and implementation of foreign policy of
Botswana. The Department works through its Headquarters and
Botswana Diplomatic Missions abroad.
The
Secretary for Foreign Affairs is the Chief Executive and
Accounting Officer of the Department. He has overall
administrative responsibility for the Department. The Department
has three main divisions, the International Relations Division,
the Protocol and Consular Services Division and the Department
Management Division.
The
International Relations and the Protocol and the Consular Services
Division report directly to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
Missions abroad also report directly to the Secretary of Foreign
Affairs on matters of Foreign Policy and only indirectly to the
Deputy Secretary on all other matters. The Deputy Secretary on the
other hand is directly responsible for the Department of
Management matters.
