Situated
about 400 kilometres from Gaborone, lies in a village on
the peripherals of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
The area is easily accessible as it is a short distance
off the Trans-Kalahari Highway. The Brigade serves as a
hub in the small village, providing the community with
skills, and, on the other hand, creating business and
employment opportunities. |

Kang
Brigades Development Trust was formed in 1978. It
operates under a Deed of Trust. Policy matters are the
responsibility of the Board of Trustees, which is headed
by the Chairman. Day-to-day matters are handled by the
Coordinator, who is also the Chief Executive Officer and
Secretary of the Board |
|
Brigades are
vocational educational institutions emphasizing on
Training with Production. Currently, Brigades train
young Batswana in a number of trades. |
|
As an Institution, Kang Brigade offers
training up to National Craft Certificate (NCC) level
in the following:
Automotive Mechanics,
Welding & Metal Fabrication, Carpentry & Joinery
Bricklaying & Plastering, Business Skills

Brigade
graduates filter through to the labour market and
contribute positively to the economy. While a number are
absorbed into the mainstream of the employment market,
others set up small business ventures. There are some
who opt, still more, to pursue further studies in the
chosen fields. |

production side, the Brigade has the following
activities:
Panel-beating, Automotive
spares, Building Construction
Woodwork & Furniture, Fuel Station

Market for
our products and services range from one-off clients,
(normally travelers along the highway) to established
business houses in the Kgalagadi District as a whole.
Much of our products and services however, go towards
satisfying the needs of our Kang Village community.
The Staff manning units and imparting skills is skilled
and drawn from within and outside Botswana. Due to the
dynamic nature of training, attention is paid to
expertise and proficiency of the human resource. A
policy in place ensures a high rate of retention and
constant upgrading of employees. |
