Automotive Trades Technical College is the biggest training institution
in Botswana that offers
courses in automotive skills. From its humble
beginning in 1982 with only one course in
automechanics, the school has
expanded tremendously under GTZ's support in both numbers
of students
and diversification of courses. Core courses are in the trades of auto-mechanics,
auto-electrical, heavy plant mechanics and auto body repair (panel beating
and spray painting)
leading to National Craft Certificate Examinations.
All workshops are fully equipped with modern machinery to provide trainees
with the latest
technology in the automotive industry which has been so
dynamic in recent years. In July
this year the College launched new programmes
in Engineering leading to Certificate and
Diploma levels. Further, the
school has developed and successfully piloted its Entrepreneurship Development
Programme. The programme aims to equip the past graduates of technical
colleges, brigades and other institutions with the necessary skills to
prepare them to start and run their
own small businesses. At the centre
of its mision, ATTC commits itself to providing quality training
to its
students and making them competitive on the job market.
Government gives sufficient resources for staff development. Teachers
are trained in South Africa, Germany, UK, USA and other overseas countries.
The recently completed expansions to the
school include workshops for
machining, welding, fitting, domestic and industrial machine repair.
All
these workshops are equipped with the latest technology in the metal trade.
Other buildings
include the administration offices, library, cafeteria,
classrooms and staff offices. The project was generously funded by the
European Union and the Botswana Government. |
